Finding inner peace through Humanistic Magick

Inner peace. What even is it?

Let’s just explore what inner peace is for a hot minute. For us, inner peace is a state of being. An outlook. A perspective on life. One that is generally positive and comes with an added upgrade of feeling balanced.

That sounds nice. How can I get some?! The search for inner peace is a journey that many of us embark on. It is a journey that takes time and a lot of effort, but it is one that can be well worth the effort. There are many paths that one can take to achieve inner peace. Some people find time out from the everyday grind helps. Others find a spirituality (like magickal practise for example)  a source of inner peace. Some prefer to do the sciencey thing of psychotherapy and counselling.

In this week’s article, we’ll explore how certainly the spiritual and the science thing do not have to be mutually exclusive in order to reach inner peace.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a type of therapy that can sometimes focus on an individual’s personal growth and development. Sometimes it can be a form of treatment in response to mental ill-health, but not always. Many models of behaviour, and other tools used by counsellors to guide their clients to wellness, have made their way into business coaching and life coaching.

We have trained in Humanistic Counselling. This is a kind of counselling that looks at the person as a whole and tries to understand their feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. Humanistic counselling can also look at the individual’s past experiences and how they may be affecting their life currently. The goal of humanistic counselling is to provide the individual with an understanding of themselves, the world around them and to help them find meaning and purpose in life. We use our experience and training in a coaching sense.

What is magick?

Now isn’t that the million dollar question!

Magick can be thought of as a form of spiritual practise. It is a concept that has been around for centuries. For us, magick is the ‘philosophy and art of affecting intended change through an unseen cause’. For us, it is something that focuses on manifesting intended change, which could include one’s desires. Certainly for us, we believe that our thoughts and intentions are powerful, and that they can be used in combination with rituals, to manifest one’s desires. Including unlocking inner peace and wellbeing.

How to incorporate magick into your life

If you’re new to magick (firstly, hello!) incorporating magick into your life can feel like a battle to understand what is the right way. We promise, it is not as difficult as it may first appear. The first step is to understand how to get going with the basics. Then build on that knowledge with a few principles of the type of magick that appeals and how it works. But honestly, once you understand the basics, you can start to incorporate it into your life by creating all sorts of rituals and spells. Creating rituals and spells is a personal expression of the magick, and there is no “right” or “wrong” way to do it. It is important to find a method that works for you, and to make sure that you are comfortable with what you are doing.

Combining Humanistic Counselling approaches and magick

We mentioned earlier that the goal of Humanistic Counselling is to provide the individual with an understanding of themselves, the world around them and to help them find meaning and purpose in life. It does this through the belief individuals have the power to make their own choices, and that their decisions should be based on their own personal values and beliefs. It is also based on the belief that individuals are capable of making meaningful and positive changes in their lives, such as building self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-compassion.

Combining methods found in humanistic counselling and magick can be a powerful way to unlock inner peace and wellbeing. Our flavour of magick tries to do this. By combining the two, we believe we have created a powerful foundation for personal growth and development through magickal expression. For example, tools found in humanistic counselling (such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs) can provide understanding and insight that can be used to make meaningful and positive changes. Magick can provide the creative outlet and focused intention needed to manifest desires and goals.

Ultimately, this combination of a humanistic practise within magick can help you to create a positive and empowering mindset that will help you to manifest your desires.

The practice of Humanistic Magick at work

There are many different ways to combine a humanistic approach with magick. For example, meditation is a powerful tool to clear the mind and to focus on inner thoughts and feelings. It is also a great way to connect with your inner self and to gain insight into the underlying causes of any particular issues. We share regular meditations with our subscribers, which are a combination of mindfulness, visualisations, and affirmations. So they are all designed to reinforce positive thinking and to create a positive and empowering mindset. Perfect for creating the right mental space for successful magickal practise.

Our Humanistic Magick approach also makes proactive use of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. We overlayed the colours of the spectrum over the pyramid structure attributed to Maslow. We find this model is a useful framework to visually connect wants and needs with magick. For example, practising magick in support of things like ‘esteem needs’ (which might be a confidence spell) and ‘cognitive needs’ (which might be a spell to learn a new skill).

Right at the top of the pyramid is something called ‘transcendence’. This is the place where inner peace can be found.

Finding inner peace through Humanistic Magick

Finding inner peace through humanistic magick is rewarding, but does require dedication and commitment. We’re not claiming to have achieved transcendence (yet!) but we’re here to share some steps that we take, to speed things up a bit for you.

Get clear on your goals: Before beginning the journey to inner peace, it is important to get clear on your goals. These can be big goals for life, or just a series of little goals that form small pieces of the picture. But the questions are the same. Knowing a) what you want to achieve and b) what the outcome you are looking for is, are super important.

Finding someone you can work with: This might be another magickal practitioner, but could equally be a tarot reader or even a counsellor who practises Humanistic or Person-Centred Counselling. It’s about finding someone who you feel comfortable with and who you can trust. Someone who can provide some advice and guidance along the way, as you climb up through Maslow’s Hierarchy.

Create a consistent practice: Creating a philosophy and art through which you engage in rituals and spells will help you to reach those clear goals. Consistency is key when it comes to reaching inner peace. It is important to stay consistent with your practice and to keep pushing yourself to reach your goals.

Celebrate your successes: Don’t forget to celebrate your successes along the way. Keeping a record of what is working for you is one way to keep success at the front of your mind. Celebrating success is another important way to stay motivated and to keep pushing forward.

Reaching inner peace is a journey that takes time and effort, but it is one that is well worth the effort. Combining humanistic approaches and magick into Humanistic Magick can be a powerful way to unlock inner peace and wellbeing. By following these steps, you can begin your journey to inner peace and start living a life of joy and fulfilment.
