Harnessing the mystical power of the Sun and Moon in magick

We specialise in astral magick, which basically means the rules we like to follow come from using the movements of the planets, and other celestial bodies, and where they are in the sky at any given moment.

In astrology, it is believed that the planets have a direct effect on the human psyche and that each planet possesses its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. Astral magick is based on astrology. It uses the characteristics and strengths of the planets that come from astrology as a source of power. As a result, each planet has its own set of positive and negative uses in magickal practises. To understand how each planet can be used for magick, it’s important to first learn about their individual meanings.

We previously posted about using Mars and Saturn, Jupiter and Venus and the Outer Planets in a magickal context. This week we will briefly introduce you to the Sun and the Moon as they relate to magick.

Harnessing the power of the Sun and Moon for magick

For centuries, humans have felt a special connection to the Sun and the Moon, with many cultures believing that harnessing the power of both celestial bodies can bring about miraculous results. The power of this magick lies in its ability to bring together the energies of the Sun and Moon to create a powerful force that can be used to manifest positive change in our lives. With the right knowledge and a little practise, anyone can learn to use the Sun and Moon’s energies to bring about their desired results.

The power of the Sun in magick

The Sun has long been seen as a powerful force, with its own unique energy that can be drawn upon for magickal purposes. For example, many religions and cultures have festivals dedicated to the power of the Sun. The Sun is often associated with life-giving, often masculine, energies such as strength and protection. It is also believed to be a source of creativity, inspiration and attraction. This means the Sun’s power can be used magickally in spells associated with social endeavours, to inject creativity and for being in the spotlight.

The power of the Moon in magick

The Moon has been associated with magick almost forever it seems. Many magickal practitioners harness the power of Moon for magick, for example by working with the phases of Moon. The power of the Moon in astral magick comes from its astrological associations as a feminine energy, associated with emotion and intuition. The Moon can be used in spells focused on empathy, understanding emotions and working with inner wisdom.

The Moon when it is travelling along in front of the signs of the Zodiac can also be used in magickal practice. Our magick is based on this. When we practise magick at this time, the connection between the Moon and the Star Sign can be blended together to make spell casting success more likely.

How to harness the Sun’s energy in magick

The key to harnessing the power of the Sun is to focus and direct the energies in a specific way. That means the Sun can only provide you with magickal energy associated with strength, protection, recreation, creativity, inspiration and so on. These energies can certainly be pulled into spell work for things like abundance or love, you just have to be mindful in what you’re asking the Sun to do. The Sun is a great source of energy for self-love and if you’re looking for opportunities to be in the spotlight, perhaps so you can earn a bonus, the Sun is perfect for this.

Think about how to draw upon the Sun’s energy when setting your intentions. Work on the day of the Sun, which is Sunday or use planetary seals or other symbols that represent the Sun in your magickal rituals.

How to harness the Moon’s energy in magick

The power of the Moon comes from the energy and astrological associations, but also by working with the Moon’s visibility from our vantage point of Earth. These aspects can be used in combination in order to achieve our desired magickal results. For example, new moons are used in magickal practise associated with beginnings and starting projects. Waxing moons are useful for magick about increasing things and building on ideas. Waning moons are useful for magick all about releasing and closing things down. Full moons can be a time of celebration and ritual and are considered to be when the moon is at its most powerful. This means full moons could be used as a boost to magickal work.

The Moon is also best used when providing you with magickal energy associated with empathy, comfort, a sense of security, ancestry, intuition and so on. These energies can be pulled into spell work for things like healing and family love by being mindful of what you’re asking the Moon to do. The Moon is a great source of energy for emotional healing and healing rifts in the home and if you’re looking to develop intuitive abilities the Moon is a superb source of power for this.

Think about how to draw upon the Moon’s energy when setting your intentions. Work on the day of the Moon, which is Monday or use planetary seals or other symbols that represent the Moon in your magickal rituals.

The connection between the Moon and the Star Signs can also be blended together to make spell casting success more likely.

Things to remember when working with the Sun and Moon

By focusing and directing the energies pertaining to the Sun and Moon, practitioners of magick can create powerful spells and rituals that can bring about desired changes in their lives. For example, when using the energy of the Sun, it’s best to do so in a way that works in harmony with the Sun. Similarly for the Moon. It’s about taking note of what these celestial bodies work best at, and not asking them to power up a spell for which they can’t help very much. This means that when it comes to creating spells, the best way to harness the energies of the Sun and Moon is to incorporate their energies right into the spell. You can do this by using glyphs, for example carved on candles. You can make use of their planetary days of the week. For the Sun this is Sunday, the Moon is Monday and you can also use their associated planetary herbs as ingredients in your spell work.
