Guided Meditation: Managing responses to stress

Art by Jemma

Stress management can come from either problem-focused coping (directly engaging with or removing the source of the stress) or emotion-focused coping (directly engaging with or removing the emotions produced by the source of the stress). Listening to guided imagery is a useful tool to aid relaxation in emotion-focused coping. By imagining an immersive scene, we can develop emotion-coping techniques. This will put some distance between the source of stress and the emotional reaction, which in turn can improve how we respond in stressful situations.

Here we have some pointers on how to meditate, plus some of our other guided meditations available.

Meditation practice can produce unwanted effects in people who might be more sensitive. We encourage anyone who is unsure about practising meditative techniques to seek appropriate professional support before experimenting with meditation.
