Limiting beliefs

Limiting beliefs act as a kind of invisible prison, keeping you trapped in patterns of self doubt. These beliefs aren’t facts, they’re just interpretations that your brain has accepted as truth. As research indicates, most limiting beliefs stem from your brain’s negativity bias, an evolutionary mechanism designed to protect you by preparing for the worst.

Your thoughts alone can influence unrelated events, which plays a complex role in the cycle of believing in your limiting beliefs. When thoughts become balanced, this can foster resilience, creativity, and problem-solving skills. But first we have to break the cycle.

Breaking free from limiting beliefs

The process of breaking free from limiting beliefs starts with identifying these constraining thoughts. When examining your limiting beliefs, ask yourself:

  1. What beliefs make you feel less capable or limited compared to others?
  2. What do you tell yourself you must “always” or must “never” do?
  3. What messages or other rules did you hear growing up that might still influence you?

After identifying these beliefs, the critical question becomes: “Is it still true today?” 

Many limiting beliefs persist because they once served a purpose, perhaps protecting you from disappointment or rejection. Nevertheless, breaking free from limiting beliefs starts with these small actions and small wins. We have a downloadable worksheet, so that you can put pen to paper to work on those beliefs in order to challenge their validity. 

For a real magickal twist, you can have a look through a tarot card deck and find the cards that seem to symbolise your limiting beliefs in some way. Focus on the illustrations and add these insights to your worksheet or your regular journaling practise.

It’s time to break free of limiting beliefs by challenging the validity of old messages in order to begin a cascade effect that leads to positive self-talk.  By working on where your limiting beliefs come from, and infusing your process with some magickal expressions, you can release these constraining thoughts, and head towards the path of growing confidence and belief in your abilities.
