Code of Ethics

The Purpose of This Code

As members of the National Hypnotherapy Society, we are guided by the Society’s Code of Ethics. In addition to our duty to follow the Society’s Code of Ethics, we go further by adding our own Code to that of the Society’s.

Fundamental Principles

The fundamental ethical principles of the Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioner and client relationship are that Magenta School of Magick, and the Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioner shall:

  1. In line with our Disclaimer, provide support to clients through the provision of a spiritual listening service that recognises the efficacy of spiritual beliefs as a catalyst to personal growth and change.
  2. Honour the client’s subjectivity, views, beliefs, ideas and goals.
  3. Respect commonly understood boundaries.
  4. Maintain respect, confidentiality and dignity for all in accordance with any existing laws and practices.
  5. Provide services that support unconditional positive regard, acceptance and non judgemental behaviour.
  6. Use and demonstrate empathy.

Client Welfare

Magenta School of Magick and Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioners undertake to:

  1. Work in ways that will promote autonomy and wellbeing of clients and that maintains respect and dignity for all.
  2. Remain aware of their own limitations and wherever appropriate, be prepared to refer clients to other specialists who might be able to offer a more suitable service provision or signpost to other services available.
  3. Ensure that whenever clients are seeking medical, diagnostic or therapeutic advice, that unless having already done so, that they are advised to contact a registered medical practitioner. Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioners should not and will not attempt to diagnose clients or pass any comment on the services being received elsewhere.
  4. Ensure that the workspace, session and/or any facilities offered to clients and their companions will be in every respect suitable and appropriate for the service provided.
  5. Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients and anybody who accompanies them.
  6. Never protract the Holistic Therapeutic sessions unnecessarily, but to end the service at the earliest moment consistent with client needs.

Confidentiality and Maintenance of Records

Magenta School of Magick and its Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioners undertake to:

  1. Maintain strict confidentiality within the Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioner /client relationship, provided that such confidentiality is neither inconsistent with the client’s own wellbeing or the well being of; other clients, their family members or other members of the public nor in contravention of any legal action (i.e. criminal, coroner or civil court cases where a court order is made demanding disclosure) or legal requirement (e.g. Children’s Acts).
  2. Ensure that any notes and records are kept secure and confidential; and that the handling and/or processing of personal data remains compliant with GDPR and our Privacy Policy.
  3. The maintenance of notes might include a case history, a programme of sessions (as agreed between the Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioner and client), session progress notes, worksheets and a copy of any additional Code of Conduct agreed between the Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioner and client outside of this Code of Ethics.
  4. Advise the client that anonymised case notes may sometimes be utilised for the purposes of training and development at Magenta School of Magick, the supervision of Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioners and statistical purposes on the use of Magenta School of Magick services.
  5. Refrain from using any such anonymised client notes should a client indicate a preference that their own notes are not to be used for the purpose stated in paragraph 4 above.

Supervision and Continuing Professional Development

Holistic Therapeutic Services practitioners wishing to maintain or improve their level of skills can opt to engage in:
